Baselworld always signifies a host of small innovations and one big novelty. This year, the one significant innovation is the Rolex Yacht-Master that made its debut in white gold and with a bigger case, all-new movement and a combination of black ceramic bezel and Oysterflex strap. Today, let’s take a quick look at the spotlights of the new Rolex Yacht-Master 42 introduced at Baselworld 2019.

The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42 watch flaunts a white gold case for the ever first time in the Yacht-Master collection. More significantly, the timepiece is also the first one to come with the self-winding Calibre 3235 movement.
The Oyster case increased in size to 42mm from the existing 37mm and 40mm. Moreover, the case is made from 18ct white gold.
The bi-directional bezel is equipped with a Cerachrom insert and has a rough edge to grip comfortably.
However, the bezel flaunts a 60-minute graduated scale and comes in matte black to harmonise with the lacquer dial in black.
A virtually scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the black dial. And, the familiar Cyclops lens is fitted to magnify the date at 3 o’clock position. Moreover, the prominent markers and wider hands are crafted from 18ct white gold and feature the Rolex-patent Chromalight substance that glows longer than Super-LumiNova.
With the screw-down winding crown and patent Triplock waterproof system, the new Yacht-Master is water-resistant up to 100m. However, it should be noted that the watch is considerably less resistant to water than its previous iterations (1000m).
The Self-Winding Calibre 3235
The Calibre 3235 self-winding movement has a power reserve of 70hours, passing the strict standard of the brand’s Superlative Chronometer precision tests. While the movement utilises the proprietary Chronergy Escapement that is made up of magnetic-resistant nickel phosphorous, it makes the movement highly durable and energy-efficient.
The oscillator employs a blue Prachrom hairspring that offers resistance to shocks more than the usual hairspring.
The watch comes with a precision of -2/+2 seconds each day.
The Oysterflex Bracelet
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 42 watch comes with a matching black Oysterflex bracelet. Although the bracelet resembles virtually a traditional rubber strap at one glance, Rolex categorises it as a bracelet because of its internal longitudinal cushion system.
The longitudinal cushion system is made from titanium-nickel alloy blades that are over-moulded with high-performance and durable elastomer.
The manufacturer claims that it offers the comfort and flexibility of a strap as well as stability and high resistance of a bracelet.
However, the bracelet comes with Oysterlock system and safety clasp along with a new Glidelock extension system.
The Glidelock extension system enables the user to adjust the length of the bracelet in 2mm increments up to 20mm. Overall, the new Rolex Yacht-Master 42 watch is still the actual illustration of the model for many people. While the white gold case is luxuriant and heavy, the matte black bezel is casual but practical.
